In addition to strolling around Magang Fishing Port, located at the easternmost part of Taiwan, I also took the opportunity to visit the famous Sandiao Cape Lighthouse. It’s been a long time since I last came here. Driving from the coast to the mountains was quick, and after parking near the lighthouse, I walked in to have a look.
Sandiao Cape Lighthouse Admission
There is no admission fee for the lighthouse. It’s managed by the Ministry of Transportation’s Maritime and Port Bureau. Previously, it was under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Finance’s Customs Administration, and back then, it wasn’t open to the public. Now, after the change in management, the lighthouse is open for free visits. Sandiao Cape Lighthouse is also the only lighthouse in northern Taiwan that allows public visits.
The Surrounding Scenery of Sandiao Cape Lighthouse
There are restroom facilities for visitors in the white building nearby. From inside, you can not only see the lighthouse but also the sea in the distance. Another prominent feature is the large spherical Sandiao Cape Radar Station, which is not open to the public.
Sandiao Cape Lighthouse and Radar Station
Walking along the coast offers a different view, although the path loops back. Even though it was raining, the rain added its own charm, and the slopes were adorned with beautiful flowers.
Inside the Sandiao Cape Lighthouse
The interior of the lighthouse is open to visitors, but you can’t access the upper levels. Inside, you can view various equipment, including bulbs and tools. There are also many large photos and illustrations on display.
Sandiao Cape Lighthouse
After exiting, I took a beautiful photo of the white lighthouse. This lighthouse has guided numerous ships, helping to steer fishing vessels in the distance through the darkness. It stands here on solid ground.
The Facilities of Sandiao Cape Lighthouse and Radar Station
Additionally, right across from the lighthouse is the Sandiao Cape Radar Station. Its gate is securely locked, and it provides optimal detection services for Taiwan’s civil aviation flights.
Sandiao Cape Radar Station and Nearby Artistic Creations
Many birds rest on top of the large spherical structure. Not much seems to have changed around here. So, we headed to the Sandiao Cape East Cape Viewing Platform, which we had visited a long time ago but had since forgotten.
The View of Magang Fishing Port’s Old Fish Farms from the East Cape Viewing Platform
From the East Cape Viewing Platform, we could see the old fish farms of Magang Fishing Port, consisting of six fish farming ponds. The area has been well-maintained after some renovations. While it may be crowded on weekends, visiting on a weekday offers a much more relaxed experience.
