On the morning of Day 2 of our self-guided, self-driving trip in Hokkaido, after finishing breakfast at Furano Highland Hotel, we began a full day of sightseeing in Hokkaido. We drove to Farm Tomita, a must-visit destination in summer, to admire the beautiful flower fields and enjoy some ice cream.
More than ten years ago, we visited the colorful flower fields here with our family on a group tour in July. This time, visiting Hokkaido in June, the colorful flower fields had not yet fully bloomed.

Farm Tomita has a very large free parking lot, but because there are many visitors, it quickly fills up. After parking, you can walk straight through the flowers and enter the flower fields to enjoy the scenery. Luckily, when we visited in June, admission was still free; just a few days later, an entrance fee would be charged.

There are so many flowers here. Since we came in June, it was the season when lupines were in full bloom—there were many of them, tall and vividly colorful.

Farm Tomita has many beautiful flower fields, including Hana-bito no Tana (Flower People’s Field), Sachi no Hana-batake (Happiness Flower Field), Autumn Colorful Flower Field, and Forest Colorful Flower Field. Some of these are autumn flower fields that begin planting in early summer and reach full bloom in autumn.
↑ Before long, we heard the sound of a train. Looking into the distance, we were very lucky to see a train passing by Farm Tomita, so we quickly took out our phones to record a video.

Our family continued walking uphill, enjoying the beautiful flower fields, and eventually reached the shop area, where we bought some souvenirs at the Sachi no Komichi shop.

Of course, we couldn’t miss the lavender soft serve and melon soft serve. Sitting on a bench, eating ice cream while looking at the beautiful flower fields—it was truly one of life’s great pleasures.

After finishing our ice cream, we headed to the Distillery House to take a look at the facilities there. Along the way, we passed Farm Tomita’s purple tractor. Its dreamy color was impossible to resist, so of course we took some photos.

In front of the Distillery House, there are information boards explaining how the work is done—the process of extracting flower essential oils. The explanations are very clear with illustrations. There is also a purple motorcycle nearby. Although there are many tourists here in summer, it is definitely worth visiting.
