Have the conger eel tempura set at Udon Takumi Townhouse

A Day Trip Across the Seto Inland Sea to Kurashiki, Okayama

We spent the entire day crossing the Seto Inland Sea to Okayama Prefecture, visiting Kurashiki Bikan Historical Quarter, known as the Heritage City of Japan. After strolling through the picturesque streets, we headed to Mitsui Outlet Park Kurashiki to shop for the sneakers we needed.

Later, we took the JR Yosan Line rapid train back to Takamatsu. By the time we arrived, it was already evening, and we hadn’t had dinner yet. So, we went straight to Udon Takumi Townhouse (うどん匠郷屋敷) on the 3rd floor of Maritime Plaza Takamatsu shopping center.

There are two branches of Gouyashiki — the main branch, which is a designated tangible cultural property located in Takamatsu, and the Sunport branch near Takamatsu Station. Since it was raining and already past regular dining hours, we opted for the closer Sunport branch, taking the escalator up to the 3rd floor.

With only a few restaurants available, we quickly decided to enter Udon Takumi Townhouse. The menu looked great, but we weren’t sure what to order. Wanting both rice and noodles, we went for three Conger Eel Tempura Set Meals (穴子天丼セット).

Ice water was served as usual, and not long after, our meals arrived. The set meal included tempura conger eel served over rice, with a choice of hot or cold udon. We ordered two hot and one cold udon.

Here’s the cold udon — both versions were refreshing and delicious. The conger eel was freshly fried, and paired with steaming white rice, it was the perfect meal after a chilly, rainy day in Takamatsu.
