Years ago, I heard from a friend that she joined a tour to Shodoshima and brought back delicious soy sauce to Taiwan. At that time, I had the impression that Shodoshima was famous for its soy sauce. Now, on my first visit to Shikoku, I made sure to visit one of the must-see attractions on the island—the Marukin Soy Sauce Museum, which showcases the secrets of a long-established soy sauce brewing factory.
After enjoying ice cream from the famous MINORI GELATO, we drove to the Marukin Soy Sauce Museum. There were quite a few parking spaces available, but the place was also crowded with visitors, and most of the small car parking spots were nearly full. As soon as we got out of the car, we saw a stone monument marking the Marukin Soy Sauce Museum’s 80th-anniversary project. In front of it, there were wooden barrels seemingly placed for visitors to take photos, mimicking the traditional soy sauce brewing process.
The entrance fee was 500 yen per adult and 250 yen per child. Across from the museum, there was a factory and other facilities within the grounds, though they didn’t appear to be open for public visits.
Since our main goal was to buy soy sauce, we didn’t enter the museum. Instead, we went straight to the shop next to it to look for authentic soy sauce to bring back to Taiwan.
here was a wide variety of soy sauces available. Our family purchased two different types, ensuring they were properly packaged to prevent breakage during transport.
Due to our limited time on Shodoshima, we decided to skip the museum visit this time. Hopefully, on our next visit, when we have more time, we can explore it in detail.
