After spending the whole day exploring Matsuyama City, it was time for dinner. It had been a long time since I last ate at Matsuya in Japan—around five years ago, before the pandemic. I decided to visit the Matsuyama Okaido branch of Matsuya and enjoy a big bowl of rice paired with grilled beef.
To my surprise, the restaurant was quite busy. After finding seats, we went to place our order. The ordering machines have become much more internationalized, offering multiple language options compared to the past when only Japanese and English were available.
At this branch, the price is the same (840 yen) regardless of whether you choose a small, medium, large, or extra-large bowl of rice. So, we ordered the extra-large a Set Meal of Grilled Beef. It included miso soup, shredded cabbage with corn, and double portions of beef.
We also ordered a Boneless Short Rib and Kimchi Bowl (690 yen). The large bowl of rice paired with kimchi and grilled pork was incredibly flavorful, making it easy to eat a lot of rice.
I hadn’t tried this Set Meal of Grilled Boneless Short Rib before. The meat slices were slightly smaller, probably making it a healthier option as they were less fatty.
Later, I felt I wasn’t quite full yet, so with plenty of rice still left, I ordered an additional Single item beef. After finishing the meal, I felt satisfied and ready to relax with a cup of tea before heading back to the hotel.
