Our 10-day self-driving trip in Shikoku was delayed by two days, so we had to postpone our flight back to Taiwan. On a typhoon day in Takamatsu, we had breakfast at St. Marc Cafe (San Maruko Coffee) in Takamatsu Marugamemachi, near our hotel.
Actually, we had been staying at the same hotel for several days, and the breakfast options started feeling repetitive. So, our family decided to eat out instead.
The typhoon in Takamatsu only brought overcast skies and light rain—there was hardly any wind—so many shops were still open. We initially planned to have breakfast at the basement floor of Takamatsu Mitsukoshi Department Store, but it didn’t seem to have the food we wanted.
Later, we walked to St. Marc Cafe (San Maruko Coffee) in Takamatsu Marugamemachi, also known as Saint Marc Cafe, which looked like a nice place to sit down, enjoy some bread and coffee, and relax. We ordered an iced coffee and got their famous San Maruko hot sandwich (ham and cheese bread), along with hot tea and a Danish egg bread.
We spent a quiet typhoon morning with almost no wind or rain. It felt like a rare, extra day to take a break.
The iced coffee was delicious—just one cup was enough to satisfy me. Looking at the bread they sold, everything seemed tasty. After finishing our hearty breakfast, we stepped outside to take a photo of the café. There weren’t many customers due to the typhoon, but when we returned the next day, it was packed with no seats available.
Who knew we’d find such a great breakfast spot in Japan?
