After riding the Mt. Fuji Panoramic Ropeway at Lake Kawaguchi, it was already close to noon. In the afternoon, we planned to take the KABA amphibious bus at Lake Yamanaka, so we decided to have lunch at Koshu Hoto Kozakura Yamanakako branch.

We didn’t expect the parking lot to be quite full, but luckily there were two spots left. After parking, we went inside to eat. We took off our shoes and put them in the shoe rack, then walked over to an empty tatami table. Each table had cold water and seasonings prepared.

The restaurant’s specialty is stewed pumpkin hoto noodles. Our family ordered two bowls of pumpkin hoto and one tempura set meal. Since we prefer rice dishes, we didn’t all order noodles.

The tempura set meal came with a large shrimp and an eel, served with rice and miso soup — it was delicious.

he pumpkin hoto contained not only pumpkin but also many vegetables. The flavor was quite unique and not too salty, which was nice since Japanese noodle soups are usually very salty. The natural sweetness of the pumpkin spread through the mouth, and the soup was good enough to drink till the end.

After finishing our meal, we were ready to drive off. We noticed that behind the restaurant it seemed quite close to Lake Kawaguchi — if time allows, it would be nice to stroll around. There were also some parking spaces behind the restaurant, possibly reserved for staff.
