On the first night of our 12-day self-driving trip covering Hakone, Lake Kawaguchi, and Hokkaido, we planned to stay at Toyoko Inn Odawara eki Higashi guchi.
After a full day of flying and driving to Hakone, we took the Hakone Tozan Railway and later had dinner at Tamura Ginkatsu Tei Harune Odawara Ten , which was not far from our hotel. After dinner, we walked back to the hotel.
Since the hotel parking lot was already full, we parked our rental car in a nearby parking facility. After dinner, we returned to the hotel to rest and organize our luggage. However, we were craving some Japanese sweets, so we walked again to a convenience store at the west exit of Odawara Station to buy ice cream.
Because there is no direct pedestrian path from the east exit to the west exit of Odawara Station, we had to walk through a nearby underpass to reach the west exit. After buying desserts, we originally planned to take the free shuttle bus back to Toyoko Inn Odawara eki Higashi guchi, but we couldn’t find the shuttle stop, so we had no choice but to walk back again.
Back at the hotel lobby on the 1st floor, we retrieved our backpacks from the storage lockers and went to our rooms. The three of us were staying in two rooms: one twin room for two people and one single room for one person. This one was the twin room.
The other room was a single room. Toyoko INN room layouts are fairly consistent — the single room had a large bed and was definitely worth staying in.
The next morning at breakfast, the 1st floor dining area was too small and already crowded, so we brought our breakfast back to the room. The food was pretty good, though we wished there had been a toaster to warm up the bread — that would have made it even better.
