We had a chicken rice bowl and grilled chicken skewers at the roadside station TSUBASA ASHIBETSU in Ashibetsu City

After visiting the beautiful flower fields, the Shirogane Blue Pond, and Shirahige Falls in Biei, Hokkaido, we drove on to Sapporo, as we were staying overnight at the New Otani Inn Sapporo. Even by car, the fastest driving time takes about 2.5 hours. While traveling on the Hokkaido Expressway / Doo Expressway, we stopped at the Ashibetsu roadside station to use the restroom.

The restrooms at roadside stations in Hokkaido are very clean, and parking at the Ashibetsu roadside station is also very convenient. After using the restroom, we noticed that there were nearby attractions such as the Hoshi no Furusato Centennial Memorial Museum, as well as places to eat. Since we hadn’t had lunch, we decided to have a simple meal at the roadside station.

There were several shops at the roadside station. One that caught our eye was ONIGIRI & YAKITORI TSUBASA ASHIBETSU, which sells chicken-related items such as onigiri (rice balls), grilled chicken skewers, and rice bowls. Our family ordered a chicken rice bowl and grilled chicken skewers.

Because the food was grilled to order, we had to wait for a while. During the wait, we looked around at the surrounding scenery. In addition to a cable-stayed bridge, there were also nearby buildings such as a temple and the Hoshi no Furusato Centennial Memorial Museum.

We sat on the benches in front of the shop and enjoyed our meal—grilled chicken skewers and a chicken rice bowl. The grilled chicken was very tasty, and paired perfectly with the rice. It was especially delicious with chili powder added, which gave it an extra kick. We felt very satisfied.
