On the third day of our Hokkaido self-driving trip, our family drove from Shiroi Koibito Park to Otaru. We had reserved tickets for the Otaru Canal Cruise, and in the evening we stayed at Hotel Nord Otaru. From afternoon shopping and the canal cruise to dinner at night, all our activities were around the Otaru Canal area.

After parking our car at the hotel’s parking lot, we checked in and placed our luggage in the room. Then we headed out to stroll along Otaru Sakaimachi Street and take the canal cruise. The hotel is conveniently located right in front of the Otaru Canal.

Inside the lobby, there was beautiful stained glass and European-style architecture and décor. The environment looked clean and comfortable. When we arrived, there were hardly any other guests, so it was very quiet.

Most importantly, while we were waiting in the lobby, we noticed welcome drinks on a table. In addition to hot coffee and black tea, there were also cold milk, tomato juice, and orange juice available free of charge. The drinks were offered from 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM. Our family each had a small cup of cold milk—it was absolutely delicious.

The lobby seating is arranged in a circular layout, making it convenient for guests to relax. The curtains allow you to see outside from within. After checking in, we went upstairs to our room. The room was spacious, with windows facing the back of the hotel.

The room was quite large and even had two toilets, so family members didn’t have to wait if they needed to use the bathroom at the same time. There was also a sink along the hallway, with a large mirror above it, which made it very convenient for washing up and getting ready. Unfortunately, I forgot to take photos of the three single beds.

The next morning, we had breakfast at the hotel since we had added breakfast to our reservation. The buffet breakfast was quite good. I helped myself to several of their specialty seafood dishes, and every seafood item was delicious.

Of course, there were also bread and other standard breakfast options. After a hearty meal, we were energized and ready to continue our journey.
