Breakfast at Pelican Cafe, a directly operated cafe by the long-established Pelican bakery in Asakusa, Tokyo

After spending one night at Hotel Sunroute Asakusa during our three-day, two-night stay in Tokyo, we decided not to book breakfast at the hotel. Instead, we walked to a nearby cafe called Pelican Cafe for breakfast.

Pelican Cafe is directly operated by Pelican, a long-established bakery in Asakusa, Tokyo, famous for its thick-sliced bread and toast. It is a must-try food spot in Asakusa. Right next to the Pelican bakery is Pelican Cafe, where the breakfast menu naturally features the bakery’s famous bread and toast.

Waiting in line outside Pelican Cafe in Asakusa

We didn’t expect to see so many people lining up in the morning. We took the opportunity to take some photos when there was no one outside the cafe while other customers were inside enjoying their meals. There is a small signboard next to the entrance, and the bright red awning makes the cafe easy to spot.

This is Pelican Cafe’s charcoal-grilled thick-cut toast. It tastes even better when spread with jam.

We also ordered the fried thick-cut ham sandwich and the limited-quantity fruit sandwich. Everything was delicious!

I am writing about this breakfast we had in Tokyo in June 2025. We never imagined that we would still be craving the same flavors the following year. In April 2026, we returned to Pelican Cafe once again for breakfast. It was simply too delicious to forget!
