Eating lamb in Hokkaido is truly one of the happiest things. For dinner, we went to the Gochome branch (main store) of Genghis Khan Daikokuya in Asahikawa. After finishing our trip to Kamui Kotan — one of Asahikawa’s Eight Scenic Spots — we drove back to the city center. We stayed at the Toyoko Inn Hokkaido Asahikawa Station East Exit. After parking the car and dropping off our luggage at the hotel, we immediately walked over, hoping we wouldn’t have to wait too long.

Although we still had to queue, we could wait in the rest area across the street. Since we arrived quite early, we only waited about 15 minutes before getting in. While waiting, there were human-shaped cutouts in the rest area for taking photos.

I didn’t expect the seating area inside to be quite spacious, making the dining experience much more comfortable. We immediately drank some ice water and started ordering. We ordered the lamb platter (Daikoku Set Meal), which included raw lamb from the loin, leg, and filet. We were ready to start grilling the lamb.

Lamb shoulder loin is the most popular cut, so we ordered an extra portion of it. Once grilled and paired with their special sauce and chili, it was incredibly satisfying — especially when eaten with white rice.

Besides the lamb, we of course also ordered vegetables: carrots, pumpkin, and bean sprouts. Eating them together with the lamb was truly delicious. Even now, just looking at the photos, I want to eat it again.
